Nose piercing stud? (20 char)?

ok so ive just changed my piercing for the first time. My mum bought me the studs which are just straight bars, no hooks or anything and he said that the lady in the shop said just to simply bend the stud to make a hook. problem is i have tried many times to bend this stud but its not working! so how do you change your stud and what ways would you suggest?
