Runescape account HELP?

I played runescape like 3 years back, then i quit, just recently i tried going back on my old char, but it said incorrect pass and what not right? So i did a password recovery, well that didn't work either!! The next thing i tried was making a new char, and giving him the same name, AND IT WORKED!?!?!!? Do you think my account was deleted? Nobody knew my password?! help please!
